Box rides on iCloud's coattails, offers 50GB of free cloud storage to iOS users

No, your eyes don't deceive you -- Box is offering 50GBs of free storage inside its cloud for iOS users -- just like it did for TouchPad owners back in June. Anyone who downloads the latest version of Box's app for iPad and iPhone will receive their massive lot for data storage after registering a personal account (existing accounts can join in on the fun as well). To make better use of that extra space, Box will also be bumping upload capacity from 25MB to 100MB per file and baking in AirPlay support. Look, Box is obviously skitching on iCloud's tail, but it sure seems like a crazy good deal considering that space is yours "forever." The promotion will last for 50 days, officially starting at 12AM on October 14th -- although, we're already seeing the update on our end. Full details in the source link.

I got mine! I'm a dropbox user, but for 50GB of free storage for life, I'll get my foot in the door - hedge my bets. :)

Dropbox (http://dropbox.com) has been a savior for sync'ing my multiple machines and acting has my storage in the cloud. However, you have to trust your cloud service and Dropbox has "dropped" the ball in a big way at least once. (http://news.cnet.com/8301-31921_3-20072755-281/dropbox-confirms-security-glit...

There are a number of competing cloud storage services out there and YouSendIt is the latest offering. Their unlimited storage is appealing, but they lack Mac sync software to make it compelling to me yet.

Dropbox (http://www.dropbox.com) won best Internet application and I can't agree more. I'm extremely impressed with how well this file sync'ing service works. Its a real life saver for people whose lives seem to be temporarily interrupted as they move from one computer to the next. Kidding aside. Its nice to leave work for the day knowing that the document I've been working on will be waiting for me at home on my desktop, laptop, and my iPhone. Its free for 2G of storage. I pay $50 a year for 50G. It blows Apples iDisk away. Apple is just barely keeping me as a Mobile Me customer. If they were smart they'd buy Dropbox for gobs of money.

Posterous (http://posterous.com) was in the same list, and I have to say this is the first blogging service that truly made blogging easy. The cost of entry is as simple as sending an e-mail.

Scanning the rest of the list, I'd highly recommend taking Chrome (http://www.google.com/chrome) for a spin. It is the fastest browser I've ever seen. It would be my primary browser on my Mac if 1Password (http://agilewebsolutions.com/products/1Password), Evernote (http://www.evernote.com/), and Xmarks (http://www.xmarks.com/) integration was there. I rely heavily on these apps and browser integration is a must.

Lastly, facebook (http://facebook.com). As if I even need to cite the link. It seems 2009 was the year of facebook. EVERYONE joined it and THAT is what made it worth my time - one place to communicate with my friends and family in an e-social setting.

Anyway, back to dropbox, congratulations and I look forward to new features this year!

Get Dropbox

Dropbox works incredibly well. It is FAST to sync and I use it to keep my apps and docs available on all my Macs, my iPhone, and the web. Get dropbox, there is a free version try out - 2 Gig limit. http://www.dropbox.com

Note: If you get a warning from Google or your antivirus about dropbox.com being a malware site. You can safely ignore it. Because dropbox hosts files for millions of users, and some of those users used it for malicious purposes, it got flagged. Your use of dropbox is independent of all other users and you certainly won't get a virus from visiting the company site or your own files. Dropbox has worked with Google to resolve the flagging of the whole site.
