Trouble signing in - Accounts Help

While most of Google TV will work after you use an application-specific password, the Google TV Gallery app is not compatible with 2-step verification. If you want to use the Gallery app, you will need to turn off 2-step verification. See some examples of application-specific passwords.

OK, the Logitech Revue really needs an update.. The gallery app does not support application-specific passwords - yet another annoying problem with the current version of Google TV. When *is* that update coming to the Revue?

Logitech confesses to 'gigantic' mistake with Google TV | Digital Media - CNET News

UPDATE: This article corrects some "misquotes" or mischaracterizations about what Logitech said: http://gnarld.com/the-truth-about-logitech-ditching-google-tv/

Well, there you have it, my gamble on the Logitech Revue did NOT pay off. And I should probably stop holding my breath for the Honeycomb update because reports indicate it is buggy still.

As it is, I find the device useful for getting online content to the TV and it has a better interface for pulling video off my LAN than Tivo, but I would recommend an AppleTV or a Roku before any GoogleTV appliance at this point. Oh, Google, some things CAN'T live in perpetual beta where user experience is paramount!

Google TV update coming

Google says the Google TV update is coming.  I say its about time!

Hello,

Thank you for having purchased a Google TV product with the initial version of our software.

We’re excited to send you this advance notice about a number of software improvements that will soon be coming to your device through an automatic update. The update is rolling out over the next few weeks.

When you see a dialogue box on your TV saying “update available,” feel free to click “update now,” otherwise you can postpone the update by a few hours by clicking “not now” (handy if you’re in the middle of watching a movie). Once the update has downloaded, just follow the on-screen instructions.

The on-screen instructions include a quick guide to what’s new, but here’s an overview of the exciting new features we’re bringing you:

Keep it simple

The interface is now much simpler. The new customizable home screen gets you to your favorite content quickly. And within “all apps” you can see all of your shortcuts, similar to your Android phone or tablet.

Keeping It Simple!

Make it easy to find something worth watching

We’ve improved search across the board for content from live TV, Netflix, YouTube, HBO GO, and more. But what if you don’t know what to search for? There’s now an app called “TV & Movies” that let’s you easily browse through 80,000 movies and TV episodes across cable or satellite, Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, and many other sites. If you’ve opted in to recommendations, we can better predict what you want to watch next.

Making it Easy!

Make YouTube better on TV

We’re launching a new YouTube experience specifically built for Google TV. It is now fast and easy to get to your favorite HD-quality YouTube entertainment. And we’ve integrated YouTube more closely with Google TV search, so that you can turn virtually any topic – mountain biking, cooking, etc. – into a channel.

YouTube on the Big Screen!

Bring more apps to TV

We are opening up the TV to the creativity of content creators large and small through Android Market. Android developers can now bring existing mobile apps or entirely new ones to TV. Initially, the number of apps won’t be large – for example, apps requiring a touch screen, GPS, or telephony won’t show up – but 50 developers have seeded the Market with some cool and useful apps for the TV. We’re excited to see the number of apps grow.

More Apps on TV!

Logitech Revue™ With Google TV™

Media_httpwwwlogitech_djgcb

The price dropped (temporarily?) to $99 from $299 for the Logitech Revue. Sales have been poor, especially after numerous video streaming sites started blocking Google TV. I believe the box was plagued early on with software glitches as well. Over the air (OTA) updates have fixed some of these issues - e.g. the Netflix app has improved. The $99 price point is tempting me to try one out. I stream netflix a lot and I hate the Tivo netflix integration - very clunky. I'm also looking for a way to get my other media on the local network to the device. My first gen. AppleTV is a pain for getting video to my TV - it has a very limited set of video formats it supports. That said, I'm still searching for what video formats and home media streaming the Revue supports. I also like the idea of having the web along side the TV - the PIP web browser/video is interesting. Many times, I've hunted down my laptop or iPhone to look up something related to the show I'm watching...

What are you thoughts on the Revue? Have one? Is it worth it give the $99 price point? Let me know.

Upgrades: Logitech Performance Mouse MX

My Mac Pro's Mighty Mouse has been replaced with a Logitech Performance Mouse MX.  This mouse is extremely precise and comfortable to use.  Had my Mighty Mouse's little nubby track ball not continually gummed up, I would have continued to use it happily.  Since the mouse is completely sealed, the only way to REALLY clean it, in spite of what Apple says, is to break seals, then re-glue it after you have all the tiny little parts back in place.  After the second or third cleaning, enough was enough and after switching there's no way I could go back.

This purchase matches nicely with my Logitech diNovo Edge keyboard I bought a couple of months back.  It replaced the stock wireless keyboard that came with my pre-2008 Mac Pro - the non-aluminum, acrylic backed one.  Some of the white keys yellowed and I found the left shift key would often stick/catch/resist if you didn't hit it dead center.  You can get the diNovo darned cheap, comparatively, from MacMall.  (I paid nearly full price for the mouse, but you can find it $10-$15 cheaper online from reputable sources.)
